This event brought together 23,758 Scouts from 87 countries, but their experience was significantly disrupted by the typhoon, which struck just days into the Jamboree. The storm brought torrential rains and gale-force winds, turning the campsite into a sea of black mud and forcing the evacuation of 16,000 Scouts to shelters for 48 hours. 第十一屆世界童軍大露營 Held on the plain of Marathon, scene of the famous battle in 490 B.C. between the ancient Greeks and Persians. 這次世界童軍大露營在馬拉松平原舉行,這裡正是西元前490年古希臘人與波斯人之間著名戰役的發生地。 The Jamboree was attended by 10,394 Scouts from 89 countries, the largest contingent being 1,498 Scouts from the UK (20 chartered aircraft took part in this, the biggest UK Scout airlift to date). Attending the Jamboree every day was H.R.H. Crown Prince Constantine, Chief Scout of Greece.
